THE EXCEPTIONAL GRAIN is a blend of very special aged Scotch grain whiskies, selected from several different distilleries, each barrel chosen for its distinctive & memorable characteristics. Once assembled, the blend is finished in first-fill sherry casks. The purpose is genuine balance among rich flavors, which can be achieved only with great ingredients and very careful attention to blending and aging. A blend of remarkable aged grain whiskies, including a barrel of 30-year-old from the Carsebridge Distillery, long since closed. Blended by Willie Phillips, formerly of The Macallan; finished in first-fill sherry casks. Subtle, elegant, authentically individual, with great structure. Producer Don Sutcliffe, a man of deep and impressive experience in our industry, has been Managing Director of Craft Distillers since 2004. Don was recently able to fulfill a long-held dream. Working with Willie Phillips (for 23 years managing director of The Macallan), with whom he developed a lasting friendship when Don helped bring The Macallan into the US market, Don has developed what we regard as the most interesting Scotch whisky to come into the market for a decade.
