The Glenrothes Distillery was established in 1878 and today runs ten pot
stills. The spirit stills are distinguished by their tall necks and boil balls,
ensuring a constant reflux and giving rise to a refined and complex spirit.
This Whisky was aged for eleven years, the Refill Hogsheads allowing the
natural distillery character to remain at the forefront of the spirit. Immediate aromas are of lightly roasted barley rather than oak, followed by a little malty barley sugar and Scottish shortbread sweetness, and then along comes some orange blossom and dried peel and the expected vanilla oak. The initial flavour is one of soft orange marmalade, vanilla pastry and ginger with the spicier structure again coming through a little later.
