Grape: Pinotage Tasting Notes: Plum. Blackberry, Oak, Vanilla Kanonkop is a family winery whose name is inspired by the hillock (kopje) that a cannon (kanon) would be fired from in the 17th century to alert the locals of foreign ships arriving. Kanonkop Kadette Pinotage is a very good introduction to Pinotage, a variety that comes from Pinot Noir and Cinsault. This Pinotage is dry. bold, and smooth with supple tannins, good complexity and depth. The wine has a perfectly balanced, juicy, harmonious taste. The palate presents ripe fruits and berries (plum, cherry, blackberry, raspberry), hints of sweet spices (especially vanilla) and notes of oak, coffee, and roasted hazelnut but no burnt rubber! Will actually go well with grilled sausage or steak.
